Why Locals Love Spud Fish & Chips

Located in the heart of Seattle’s vibrant Green Lake neighborhood, Spud Fish & Chips offers an authentic taste of classic British-inspired seafood with a contemporary Pacific Northwest twist. This family-owned gem elevates the beloved fish and chips experience, serving up golden, perfectly battered halibut and cod with a satisfying crunch that never flakes off—an accomplishment that instantly engages your senses from the first bite.

The menu shines with a variety of irresistible options crafted to satisfy any craving. Popular dishes like the fresh-cut fries, hand-battered onion rings, and the comforting New England clam chowder invite you to savor layers of well-balanced flavors and textures. The house-special cole slaw, tossed in the signature Spud dressing, and the minty, lemon-kissed pea salad with smoked feta add refreshing contrast and richness. And for a nostalgic finish, their creamy, indulgent milkshakes bring a playful, silky sweetness that perfectly complements the savory main courses.

Spud’s beverage selection is similarly thoughtful, featuring a curated lineup of local and artisanal beers—from crisp Kolsch styles to distinctive sours and ciders—alongside classics like Mexican Coke and Barq’s Root Beer. This diverse drink menu pairs beautifully with the food, enhancing each visit whether you crave a chilled ale or a fizzy soft drink.

What truly sets Spud Fish & Chips apart is the warm, welcoming atmosphere cultivated by the owner and his family. Diners consistently highlight the friendliness of the staff, the bright and clean environment, as well as the option to choose between cozy indoor seats or the inviting outdoor patio—a perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely lunch or casual dinner.

Real guest reviews underscore the excellence here: Angel praises the impeccably crisp batter that clings perfectly to the fish, Nathan B calls it "the best fish and chips I’ve ever had," and Diana Naramore celebrates the nostalgic pairing of halibut with classic milkshakes for a heartwarming, quintessentially Seattle experience. Delicious and quick, this family owned fish and chips place is the best! Texture of their breading is crisp, and doesn't flake off like many other places' fried goods do. The food is always fresh and flavorful, and the service is very welcoming. Fantastic fries! Comforting chowder! And oh my goodness the milkshakes!!! I recommend as a spot to frequent

This restaurant is SO good. The single fish and chips is plenty for a person’s serving. The fish is so fresh and the fry is perfect. The best fish and chips I’ve ever had! The fried clams were also wonderful. The place is clean and bright and a wonderful atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating available. You have to try the garlic vinegar, it’s amazing. Worked by the owner and his family, they were delightful to speak with.

Amazing!! The staff is so friendly. The food is so fresh and crispy and flavorful. There’s a great drink selection from beers, ciders, wines, canned sodas, canned coffee, and more! They also have the best fried pickles that I’ve ever had in my life. Portions are generous too!

Spuds in Greenlake never disappoints! Their halibut fish and tartar sauce are absolutely awesome—crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. We paired ours with their classic milkshakes for a perfect touch of nostalgia. It was the ideal low-key and delicious way to celebrate my son’s birthday at home. Simple, satisfying, and quintessentially Seattle —friendly, and family owned and operated. We’ll be back!

I stopped by Spuds Fish and Chips and tried their regular fish and chips — just got one piece since it’s the perfect portion for one person. The fish was surprisingly good: moist on the inside with a perfectly crispy batter on the outside. The fries were also on point, well-seasoned and not greasy at all, which is rare for a place serving fried food. The staff were super courteous and helped guide me through the menu since it was my first time there. Service was quick and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. And honestly, the view of Green Lake from the shop adds a whole extra charm to the visit. Great food, great service, and great vibes. Definitely a must-recommend seafood spot!

My partner and I were visiting seattle and i had been craving clam chowder and we somehow landed on this place. they had the best cauliflower and chips for veggie friends and the clam chowder was some of the best i’ve had. The owner Craig was so kind and talked to us about the history of owning this spot. I will be coming back anytime i’m in seattle and cannot recommend this location enough. thank you Craig and your family for ending our little trip on such a pleasant and happy note!!!
